Ally
Overview
Ally is an accessibility‑focused tool that integrates with Canvas, allowing instructors to run automated checks, receive remediation suggestions, and improve the universal design of course materials. It streamlines compliance with accessibility guidelines while keeping the workflow inside the learning platform.
This tool searches for common issues to flag for review as well as addressing why they matter and how they might be fixed. Ally also creates alternative formats of course files and makes them available for download in the same location as the original file so students can find everything in one convenient location. Course accessibility scores and other reports are additionally available for institutional monitoring of improvement.
The primary limitation is that it can only assess files that are uploaded to Canvas; external links or resources hosted on third‑party platforms remain invisible to its scans, and some complex multimedia formats may require manual review.
Ally claims to meet industry standards regarding LTI accessibility and WCAG 2.1 international standards.
Go to course settings, click on the "Navigation" tab, find "Ally Accessibility Report", click the 3 dots on the right and choose "enable." Click "Save" at the bottom of the page.
