McGraw Hill SIMNet
Overview
McGraw Hill SIMnet is an online learning platform that helps instructors assess and develop students’ skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook, including computer concepts, browsers, and more.
Functions
- Includes multiple assignment types including assessments, interactive eBooks, simulations, guided simulations, narrated simulations, and auto-graded projects.
- Provides Digital Credentials, a digital certificate of achievement, for completing particular SIMnet assignments either completely or with a particular score.
Instructional Considerations
- Use of the TA role in Canvas is not recommended for this tool.
- Assignments are only created in the website interface.
- The gradebook defaults to display percentages and averages. Change the default before you assign activities to a class so that all activities assigned automatically display the type of grade you wish. If you wait until after activities are assigned, you will have to change each gradebook column individually.
- As an instructor, once you connect to McGraw Hill you will be locked into the SIMNet portal and unable to select other McGraw Hill services. You can get around this by unlinking SIMNet in the Admin Tasks panel under Reset Course Pairing. Relink the tool when you’re done using any other McGraw Hill services.
- Complexity or learning curve: Moderate
- Accessibility: McGraw Hill SIMNet claims to meet industry standards regarding LTI accessibility and WCAG 2.1 international standards.
