Microsoft Education LTI

• When you add a file to a Canvas assignment the title will change to the file name. So, instructors will want to edit the assignment title before they publish.
• To have students collaborate on a document from OneDrive instructors must use the Canvas Collaborations tool. They will not be able to collaborate in regular Canvas assignments.
• Groups created in Canvas are not pulled into the Class Notebook when trying to share a page with a group of students.
• The web version of Class Notebook may not have the same capabilities as the desktop app version.
• Course Collaborations created with the classic Microsoft OneDrive LTI aren't migrated and should be re-created using the Microsoft 365 LTI (Microsoft Education) app in Canvas courses. Old Collaborations will fail to launch after September 17, 2026; however, the files will remain on the class Microsoft OneDrive Sharepoint site for archive access and retention.
• Class Notebooks created by the classic version will continue to be available directly in the educator owner’s OneDrive or through the OneNote web app.
• Microsoft claims to meet industry standards regarding LTI accessibility and WCAG 2.1 international standards.

Teachers will need to enable the LTI before it can be used. Go to  course settings, click on the "Navigation" tab, find Microsoft Education in your course, and then click the 3 dots on the right and choose "enable." Click "Save" at the bottom of the page. 

Students access the Microsoft Education LTI from the Canvas navigation bar after it has been added to the course by an instructor. Authentication is handled automatically through Gatorlink single‑sign‑on, so no separate account is required. No additional plug‑ins or software installations are needed; the LTI runs entirely in the browser, and the underlying Microsoft 365 apps can be opened in their web versions or native desktop clients as desired.
