NaviGator AI Suite
Overview
The NaviGator AI Suite is a collection of six distinct generative AI tools provided by the University of Florida to its students, faculty, and staff. It offers a diverse set of features including conversational AI chat, in-LMS course content generation, API access for custom development, institutional analytics, personalized tutoring, and an AI-assisted coding environment.
The suite accommodates all class sizes, from individual research projects (Toolkit, Notebook) and small seminars (Assistant) to large lecture courses (Tutor, Chat). Additionally, each tool supports in-person, online synchronous, online asynchronous, hybrid, hyflex, and blended courses through its combination of web-based tools and direct Canvas integration.
The complexity of use varies by tool. NaviGator Chat and Tutor are designed to be intuitive and have a simple learning curve; NaviGator Assistant and Notebook are moderately complex, requiring some familiarity with Canvas or coding environments; and NaviGator Toolkit is advanced, intended for users with programming and API experience. Support is provided by the UF Computing Help Desk, however users are responsible for the academic integrity and accuracy of content produced with AI assistance. Users must also adhere to UF’s Acceptable Use Policy for AI, which includes guidelines on protecting sensitive and restricted data.
Designed with a focus on privacy and responsible use within an academic context, NaviGator AI provides a range of capabilities tailored to different needs across the university. By providing a centrally managed and supported AI ecosystem, UF aims to foster innovation in teaching, enhance learning outcomes, and streamline research and administrative workflows across campus.
NaviGator Chat
This conversational AI tool provides a secure environment for general-purpose tasks. Users can engage with the AI to draft emails, summarize complex texts, brainstorm ideas, translate languages, and write or debug code. It is accessible via a web interface and a mobile app, making it a versatile tool for students, faculty, and staff to enhance productivity and creativity in their daily work.
NaviGator Assistant
Integrated directly within the Canvas LMS, this tool is designed specifically for instructors. It helps streamline the course development process by generating content such as complete course modules, assignments, discussion prompts, quiz questions, and grading rubrics. By automating parts of the content creation process, it allows instructors to focus more on instructional strategy and student engagement.
NaviGator Toolkit
This tool provides API access to UF's AI models, empowering developers, researchers, and advanced users to build their own custom applications. The Toolkit allows for the integration of generative AI into new or existing projects, research workflows, and departmental services, fostering innovation and enabling tailored solutions to specific challenges within the university community.
NaviGator Analytics
A specialized dashboard for university leadership, this tool offers insights into AI adoption and usage across the institution. It provides visualizations and data on how the NaviGator AI Suite is being utilized by different colleges and units, enabling data-informed decision-making regarding technology resources, support, and training initiatives.
NaviGator Tutor
This AI-powered tool offers students personalized learning support across a variety of subjects. It functions as an on-demand tutor, providing practice problems, step-by-step explanations, and engaging in Socratic dialogue to deepen understanding of course material. It is designed to supplement classroom instruction and help students prepare for exams at their own pace. View an introductory video of NaviGator Tutor.
NaviGator Notebook
This tool combines the power of a JupyterLab environment with an integrated AI coding assistant.
